The Land Use Committee is responsible for guiding SEQ CLT’s efforts in acquiring and developing land for long-term community benefit. This work focuses on securing property to create and preserve permanently affordable housing, community spaces, and other uses that reflect the needs
and priorities of Southeast Queens residents.
The Committee works in collaboration with city and state agencies such as HPD, HCR, and HUD, as well as elected officials, community boards, and other local stakeholders to navigate land use, zoning, and development processes. Its role is to ensure that all projects align with the mission of the CLT, keeping land in community hands and preventing displacement
The Policy & Advocacy Committee ensures that SEQ CLT’s mission goes beyond development by advancing policies and protections that safeguard long-term community ownership and
affordability. The committee works to amplify resident voices, shape housing and land use decisions, and advocate for racial and economic justice. Through coalition-building and civic
engagement, the committee ensures Southeast Queens residents have a seat at the table in determining how land is used and resources are allocated.
The Resource Development & Funding Committee ensures SEQ CLT has the financial, human, and material resources to create and sustain permanently affordable housing and community
projects. The committee identifies funding streams, builds partnerships, and develops strategies that allow the CLT to move projects from concept to completion while maintaining long-term
affordability and stewardship.
The Education & Organization Committee ensures that SEQ CLT members and the broader community are informed, engaged, and empowered. The committee leads training programs, develops outreach strategies, and organizes events that build awareness of the CLT model and strengthen resident participation. Through education, marketing, and organizing efforts, the committee creates opportunities for learning, advocacy, and collaboration—helping to ensure that Southeast Queens residents drive the vision and success of the CLT.
The Membership Committee is responsible for building, engaging, and sustaining SEQ CLT’s membership base. The committee ensures that members are informed, valued, and active participants in shaping the direction of the CLT. By leading recruitment, onboarding, and engagement efforts, the Membership Committee plays a critical role in ensuring the CLT reflects the voices and needs of Southeast Queens residents
The Research & Planning Committee drives SEQ CLT’s vision by transforming community needs and aspirations into actionable development strategies. The committee conducts research, engages residents, and plans projects that turn vacant and underutilized properties into
community-owned assets. Its work ensures that CLT developments are financially feasible, environmentally sustainable, and rooted in long-term affordability and equity for Southeast
Queens residents.
